Our Case Studies Design Substantiation of Secondary Retention System Shim Gap Clearances

At two of the UK’s power stations the boiler closure units (BCUs) have a secondary retention system fitted to prevent ejection of the BCU in the unlikely event of failure of the primary retention system. The BCUs themselves are the largest pressure vessel opening in any of the currently operating stations, so structural integrity of the BCU is essential for continued safe operation.
