The principal role of the main coolant pump (MCP) is to provide a flow of primary reactor coolant to enable heat removal from the reactor core to the steam generators.

The supplier for the HPC EPR MCPs is FRAMATOME (Jeumont, France), also the supplier for the previous EPR project (Flamanville 3 (FA3) and Olkiluoto 3 (OL3)). At HPC, the MCPs are subject to the additional requirements of a High Integrity Component (HIC) claim as well as requirements for Nuclear Pressure Equipment (NPE).
