Regulatory compliance is an organisation’s adherence to laws, regulations, guidelines and specifications relevant to its business. Failure to comply with relevant regulations can result in legal punishment, including fines or imprisonment.
These regulations can often cause a strain on a company’s internal technical resources, unnecessarily costing time and money. EASL can offer a cost-effective expert review and assessment of regulatory compliance, allowing clients to focus on other priorities.
Whether in the UK, EU or internationally, EASL can provide their expertise to assessing and analysing any safety concerns a client may have, with our highly trained team of engineers and scientists, we remain up to date on the latest regulatory compliances.
What is Regulatory compliance?
EASL’s particular expertise lies in nuclear, power generation and defence. With over 250 man years’ of experience in these industries, we have a historic understanding and relationship with the many compliances developed over the growth and development of these areas.
Regulatory Compliance licensing
In the UK the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) independently regulates nuclear safety and security at licensed sites in the UK. The nuclear industry is undergoing rapid change and regulation is vital in ensuring new nuclear facilities are designed, built and operated to the highest standards, and in a manner that improves public confidence without compromising safety or security.
The ONR uses the Safety Assessment Principles (SAPs), together with the supporting Technical Assessment Guides (TAGs), to guide regulatory decision making. Compliance is demonstrated through the submission of nuclear safety cases.
For existing plant these safety cases take the form of engineering change instructions, setting out what changes to plant and procedures are required to assure nuclear safety now and in the future. It is important to ensure that the SAPs are appropriately reflected in the key supporting references to nuclear safety cases.
The EU Pressure Equipment Directive sets out the standards for the design and fabrication of pressure equipment (including steam boilers, pressure vessels, piping and safety) above a certain size with a containment pressure of more than 0.5 barg.
It has been mandatory throughout the EU since 2002 and is enacted in the UK as the Pressure Equipment Regulations (PER). It sets out standards and regulations regarding pressure vessels and boilers safety. Inspection agencies provide both verification and certification services to assess compliance.
EASL’s Regulatory Compliance Solutions
EASL have worked closely with the ONR over a number of years and have provided key supporting references to a number of structural integrity safety cases. Therefore, we understand what evidence is required to ensure regulatory compliance in this complex field.
The disciplines required for nuclear safety can be applied across other highly regulated industries where safety and security are paramount.
The skill sets required for structural integrity analysis and assessment are the same, and so whether or not your project is associated with nuclear safety, you can be assured that we will apply the same high standards to your project. We can also help to plan your work to ensure that we get to the heart of what’s needed.
Regulatory compliance is necessary in all industries that EASL can provide their expertise to.
